Name of the initiative: "Social school-atelier in Kelmentsy"
Thanks to learning the basics of sewing, you can not only earn a living, but also significantly expand your circle of communication. The initiative group of the Kelmenets community decided not only to provide sewing services for clothing repair free of charge, but also to teach those willing to make their own clothes. After all, it is extremely important for forced migrants and other vulnerable population groups to feel the support of those around them.
Already during training, the social school team of the atelier, together with IDPs, sewed and handed over bed linen to the geriatric boarding house in the village of Kelmentsi.
The participants of the initiative came not only to learn to sew, but also to chat and talk about their pain. There were also those who had never sat behind a sewing machine, and now this profession came to their liking. People saw the result of their work - from simply learning to scribble on a typewriter correctly to finished products that benefit people. As a result, local residents and IDPs were united by a common cause.
In total, the initiative covered 224 people who found themselves in difficult life circumstances, including 181 IDPs.
The following measures were also implemented in this project.
- Sewing equipment, fabrics and accessories for sewing were purchased. Necessary computer equipment is installed and configured.
- Sewing training was conducted. Everyone who was trained made a bed set for himself.
- All socially disadvantaged residents of the community had the opportunity to repair their clothes for free in the atelier.
- Made adaptive clothing for wounded veterans who are being treated in hospitals.
Social school-atelier in Kelmentsi on st. Besarabska,4 continues its work after the completion of the initiative and inspires other communities of Chernivtsi region to start similar projects.
