In conditions of constant tension and chronic stress, it is very important to have time for psychological relief and friendly communication in a circle of like-minded people. And nothing helps get rid of negativity like physical activity. SCLR applicants of the community support program of the Chernivtsi region from the NGO "Zakhist" Chernivtsi Association understand this well, and therefore decided to organize a sports event that would be accessible to a wide range of the population and unite IDPs and local residents in a joint activity."Why exactly Scandinavian walking? This sport does not require special physical training, it is suitable for both young and old people, and therefore it is the optimal choice for popularizing a healthy lifestyle," says the author of the initiative Serhii Shcherban.

Volunteers conducted a series of trainings for schoolchildren to familiarize them with the peculiarities of the sports discipline, which is gaining more and more popularity in the whole world. Participants of the scandimarathon were offered preparatory classes so that the competition would be safe and beneficial for health. There were a lot of applicants, 117 people took part in the events, which more than doubled the expected number of beneficiaries.

The implementation of the sports holiday contributed to the popularization of a healthy lifestyle, strengthening of social interactions between IDPs and local residents. The involvement of people of different ages, social groups, etc. in the event led to a better understanding of the importance of inclusion in society. And the most important consequence of the event was the unification of like-minded people and the creation of a Nordic walking club, which continues to function even after the end of grant funding.
