The center for training and development of the sewing business "From the first stitch to the first product" was opened as part of the SCLR program in the city of Sokyryani on the street Gastello, 7.
- The main goal of the project is to provide psychosocial support, training in cutting and sewing skills for children of IDPs and the host community, as well as for forced migrants of older age without a specialty, - said the author of the initiative, Natalia Kulii. - This will contribute to successful integration and adaptation in the host community. The arrangement of the modern Sewing Center will help high school students acquire useful skills, develop creative vision and imagination, and for some, the production of clothes or fashion collections may become a future profession or business.
For adults, the center organized preparatory courses in cutting and sewing, for children there is a "Moving Needle" group; for high school students - the "Fashion and Style" group. Excursions to a garment factory in nearby Novodnistrovsk are organized for participants of classes.
Visitors to the Center made their own .toys, shopping bags, napkins, kitchen aprons. For forced migrants of adult age, learning to sew will help them open their own business, because there are no studios in the Sokyryan community, so locals have to go to other settlements for such services.
To equip the Center, the Sokyrian City Council provided two rooms of the former economic development center. And with the funds of the grant, the initiative group equipped the premises with two electric sewing machines, an embroidery machine, an ironing table, a steam generator and an iron, bought a mirror, mannequins, a dressing table, etc.
Currently, more than 120 families of IDPs live in Sokyryany, many of them attend courses together with local residents, which allows them to better adapt to the new community.
After the completion of the implementation of the project application, the modernized Center for training and development of sewing business "From the first stitch to the first product" will continue to act as a place of communication, integration and self-employment, acquisition of professional skills by high school children from among IDPs, people of IDPs and residents of the host community. The sewing space became a platform for master classes on tailoring various products, a place for sewing courses, and an informal center for interpersonal communication between high school students and adult residents of the community.
